,,Ég finn til ábyrgðar gagnvart þeim sem á eftir koma…” New Icelanders í Morgunblaðinu.

Innan FKA, Félags kvenna í atvinnulífinu, hefur verið stofnuð nefnd til að auka fjölbreytileika. Á opnunarviðburði FKA í ár var mynduð táknræn keðja í Búrfellsgjá, hlekkjunum fjölgað með gjörningi og búið til pláss fyrir nýjar konur og nýja nefnd, New Icelanders eða Nýja Íslendinga.

FKA New Icelanders interviewed by Morgunblaðið this weekend.

FKA New Icelanders – Official Launch was on the 22nd October 2020.

Ásdís Ásgeirsdóttir hjá Morgunblaðinu ræddi við fimm nefndarkonur, frá öllum heimshornum sem allar hafa mikið að leggja til samfélagsins og vilja láta raddir sínar heyrast. Nánar: asdis@mbl.is

FKA New Icelanders – Official Launch was on the 22nd October 2020

Number of Attendees: 46

Berenice Barrios – Chairwoman of FKA New Icelanders

“We need to come together. I want to express that Women make up more than half of the world’s population and potential, so it is not practical for our voices to go unheard in our communities and high levels of decision making. The way that we can change that is to mobilise women and girls to see their values as leaders in their own future, and support each other by coming together in one single community, so that our voices are heard. Becoming a member of FKA association that supports female leaders and brings them forward to increase visibility and participation and creating a driving force that promotes networking and inclusivity is really important”

“Women who have moved to Iceland with dreams and high hopes find themselves sometimes marginalised for various reasons, we know exactly how this is, we don’t speak Icelandic, we don’t know the industry or market, we don’t have an Icelandic name or Icelandic family, so we find it very difficult to find a job in Iceland based on our education and experience. As Women without proper networking it is difficult, even for Icelandic women, so imagine for a foreign woman the struggle is double. FKA New Icelanders remind foreign women that there are more voices and that we can have an effect on the change. By doing this, we remind Women that the involvement matters, we need to become active in our communities and our industries, and to the highest level of the government if necessary. Women need to sit at the table, we need to become more active in everything we are doing and we need this network to be invited to sit at that table, and there are some cases where it is not possible to make a seat at the table, so you know what girls, we need to create our own table.

We need others to understand that we cannot make change possible without Women’s participation – Girls with dreams, become Women with vision and we need to empower each other to carry out such ambition, because it isn’t enough to simply talk about equality, we must believe it, and more than just believe it, one must work at it. So let’s just work it together, and let’s start now with this launch!”

Danielle – the Journey to making FKA New Icelanders possible: “A couple of years ago I was thinking, we created FKA Youth and it worked so well and a couple of years ago I thought it would be really good to have this new group for FKA New Icelanders. Because we noticed that anyone new sticks out and are not able to network and it’s a challenge, and I have heard so many stories from women about how do we get information, how do we start a company, can I get a mentor… so we wanted to create an ecosystem, but it’s not just about creating an ecosystem amongst ourselves, it’s the power of FKA, the power of networking and the power of our goals: Networking is no#1, having impact is the 2nd, but the 3rd one is visibility. And also the importance of bridging the gap into Icelandic society. It took a bit of pushing, but with the new board this year, we proposed this in June to have this committee, and now we are officially part of the overall organisation”
